Philadelphia's Magic Garden

I grew up outside of Philly...I spent many, many weekends in and around Philly. BUT! I had yet to get to one iconic spot. Until our little weekend get-away that is! The Philadelphia Magic Gardens, on South Street is an amazing mosaic gallery, mostly outdoors, spanning 3 lots. The work is the creation of artist Isaiah Zagar who moved to the neighborhood when it was slated to be turned into a highway. He started to mosaic the property to make the area more beautiful. Over time the neighborhood saw a resurgence, didn't get a highway, and is one of the most popular trendy areas of the city.
The space is amazing! You see something new every time you turn a corner or turn around. We spent nearly an hour exploring and I could have spent all day there! What's even cooler is that there are mosaics all over the neighborhood now. Many alleys and storefronts are now covered in mosaic art, truly brining life to a once bottomed out area!

I loved our visit there last year. It was really incredible to walk around and I couldn't stop taking pictures. The neighborhood is so cool too. It took us way to long to get there as well but I'm glad we did!

Not sure if magic's the word, unless you're also using mushrooms in the sentence ;) Very groovy tho....
