Heinz History Center

I had an afternoon in Pittsburgh before driving down to West Virginia and I stopped by the Heinz History Center. The museum is considered Pittsburgh’s “people museum,” and showcases and interprets the history of Western Pennsylvanians through featured iconic artifacts like the TV set from “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” and the world’s oldest jeep. Two of the museum's floors feature The Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum as well! The museum is in an old factory type space and there are views of the rivers and bridges through the huge windows opposite the exhibits. 

It was very fun to see the way Western Pennsylvanians have contributed to the fabric of not only the state but the country and world. I had no idea that Jonas Salk was working at a lab in Pittsburgh when he created the miraculous vaccine for Polio! My favorite part had to be the Mr. Roger's set. I have such a strong connection to his "neighborhood" and my cheeks hurt from smiling being there and seeing the additional pieces Mrs. Rogers has donated. Of course, the exhibit on Heinz ketchup was a runner up - it is a food group after all!
