This year's art exhibit on the plaza outside of Central Park South is a gorgeous piece by Edra Soto called "Graft." The massive piece blends geometric forms and cultural memory, inspired by the ironwork screens, called rejas, found in Puerto Rican architecture. Soto transforms these familiar motifs into a layered, sculpture that invites viewers to consider ideas of home, migration, and identity.
I love how it feels like a huge gate into Central Park - which ties so nicely into the intended themes. We all feel a sense of calm when we see a door or gate welcoming us home, and Central Park is for all of us!
