Old North Bridge

Now, the ride of Paul Revere
Set the nation on its ear,
And the shot at Lexington heard 'round the world...

When the British fired in the early dawn
The War of Independence had begun,
The die was cast, the rebel flag unfurled...

{Schoolhouse Rock -- Shot Heard Round the World}

I am slightly ashamed to admit that I spent 10 years in Boston before finally getting out to Concord to see the Old North Bridge...better late than never right?

On April 19, 1875, the "shot heard round the world" was fired here in Concord as the Americans fired on the British at the start of the Revolutionary War.

This actual monument to the battle is on the "British" side of the river, but when they installed it in 1836 the bridge had yet to be replaced. The site is now part of a beautiful park that stretches for miles along the route that took the Americans from Boston out to Lexington and Concord.

Glad I finally saw this key site in America's history before heading back to NY!

...it's neat to see where it all happened.

That was great you finally made it there. That's a place I need to add to our list!

Now I have another interesting place to add to our list of "things to see." We've been "planning" an Eastern Road Swing for years but other things always get in the way. One of these years it will happen and then we'll make sure to stop here.

I guess you have lots of historical sites like this for the War of Independance, and the Civil War. Lovely to see these monuments part of a lovely garden now. Take care, enjoy the rest of your week, and thankyou again for the link up.
