September reading round up

This is my one "guilty pleasure" series. I love mystery novels (I usually can solve an Agatha Christie before the ending.) and my mom got me hooked on this series in college. I decided after all the new (and amazing) books I read over the summer, it was totally fine with going back to a guilty pleasure and besides it had been too long since I checked in with main character Kinsey Milhone. This one had a bit of a different feel than the others in the series, but it was an interesting case and story line. There were two main story lines, as usual, and this time they both caused trouble for the main character. Another quick and easy read and I am actually almost caught up with Grafton and the series!

I borrowed this fantastic read from a co-worker. She had lent it to a student we both taught last year (he's an excellent reader) and I thought it sounded fascinating. It's a wonderfully written, first book in a series about what happened to the famous alchemist, Nicholas Flammel (you know, like the one in Harry Potter). I honestly couldn't put it down and love any book that plays with the possibility of another world and other beings. This fantasy world felt real, which to me is what makes them so enjoyable. It's set in the modern day and focuses on a set of twins who suddenly find themselves in the midst of a magical battle over a book called the Codex. Flammel, who has been alive for hundreds ofyears is suddenly their only hope to survive and possibly the world's only hope too!

Ooooh, two very interesting reviews. Thanks, Tamar! Hahaha, I cut my bangs up really high when about 5 yrs old but my Mom blamed herself for leaving the scissors too low.

I'll have to check out that first series -- love mysteries and I'm trying to get back to reading after a long hiatus.
