The Good. The Random. The Fun. v. 2.11

The Good:
I tried an idea I found in a teacher magazine this week and it was AMAZING. In stead of each child answering a list of questions (we were pre-assessing our knowledge of a new topic) and us going around answering them, each table was assigned a question. Each table member, had their own post-it note and answered the question on their own.
Then, as a group, they shared their answers and came up with the best possible answer. One group pulled out our white boards and worked on drafting an answer with the strongest parts of each of their answers, even throwing away the post-its once they had read that one off and added it to their answer!
May be one of the best teaching moments this year!

The Random:
Yes. I am this geeky, to capture this once in a lifetime pi day occurrence.

The Fun:
So. I got the stomach bug thing that is going around (not fun. at all.). But out of germs comes good. I discovered "The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" on Netflix. Seriously. Laugh out loud funny. Go. Binge. (Did I mention Carol Kane is in it - amazing!)

Oh, I didn't see that show in the line-up. Must check it out! Hope you're feeling much better, too.

I like that teaching technique, it takes a group approach but still involves individual input (so often absent in groups when the stronger students assert themselves and less assured students shuffle to the back). Pi day - yep, you got it down. Glad you are feeling better, don't know how we ever got through viruses without Netflix, but so glad it is here now.

Tamar, I hope you are feeling like your old self again. I'll certainly check out that show on Netflix. I can surely use a good laugh now and then. I do love the "teaching moment"; that is so exciting and creative. Kids do appreciate making learning interesting and not just doing things by rote. Have a wonderful new week.

Glad you are on the mend and back to class! I started watching Unbreakable KS on Friday night and am halfway thru Season 1. I'm loving it, too. However, I can't get the opening theme song out of my head. ;)

They sure do look like they had fun. We were missing quite a few folks last week ourselves, due to illness I think. Glad you had something to entertain you.

That is one cool idea! It's fun making up ways to teach children while they're actually enjoying it!

Excited for the series recommendation and, as always, inspired by all you learn as you teach!

As a girl who aspired for many years to be a teacher, I LOVE that teaching idea! :)

I so appreciate good teaching techniques - kids are amazing at what they can accomplish under a great teacher.

It must be awesome to see the kids work through ideas and come up with something...together! :)

Sounds like a wonderful teaching moment. I'm sure it's very rewarding. We enjoyed Pi day too but everyone was out of the house doing things when the exact time came around. Such is a busy life!
