Here we go!

Back to school, ring the bell
Brand new shoes, walking blues

Back to class, through the hall
Safely walk to school without a sound

{White Stripes -- We're Going to Be Friends}

Today is the first day of school for the 2020 - 2021 school year.
In March, we hoped this day would look normal.
By May, we knew it would be different.
Now, it's time to get this show on the road.

The first day of school sure looks different than ever before, but if the 2 days of orientation we held last week are any indication...the kids are so ready, we have thought through every safety scenario to the extreme, and parents are so grateful we are reopening in person.

This year the "shiny" new parts aren't just fresh bulletin boards and new pencils. It's also "stay 6 feet apart" circles on the floors, hand sanitizers everywhere, masks, and temperature checks. It's teacher survival kits, outdoor learning tents, and extra patience.

It's also surreal to not be at the helm of a classroom. Now I will {safely} weave in and out of 6 classrooms, learning kids' names, watching teachers teach, and tending to the overall operating of our school.

I am looking forward to a new adventure on this spectacular campus (yes we have a beach!) with an amazing staff and some amazing kiddos. School in person is a hot button topic, but seeing kids in that building last week, even for a few hours, just felt right.

Ready or not, here we go!

I hope your first day (and week) goes really well. Thinking of you as you adjust to not teaching.

Keep up that spirit, as I know you will, no matter what comes along. My son in CO has been working (he's part of a counseling department which helps kids prepare for college) for 2 weeks back in a highschool. The kids really want to be there, and wear the masks, but don't stay distant much.
