Lower East Side

Over winter vacation, my friend Tikvah and I did a walking tour of the Lower East Side at the Tenement Museum. We walked a few blocks around the museum and learned about how the neighborhood changed from the time the first tenements were built through the collapse of the economy and further transitions of the area. It's quite amazing to think of that area, over 100 years ago, hustling and bustling with immigrants trying to live the American Dream.
We saw the former Ridley's Department Store - now painted pink to stand out...that it does! The old Jarmulowsky's bank is in the process of becoming a luxury hotel - with its cupola being restored to its original 1890s construction. The tour ended at the original headquarters of the Forward Newspaper which is always cool to see with the Yiddish on top. We walked up to Diller's Pickles after because how do you come to the LES and not get pickles! A fun time out learning about a pretty famous historic of Manhattan.

Beautiful captures of the buildings, I love architecture and large cities are filled with interesting buildings with lots of history!

That's pretty cool that they preserved the history of the immigrants.
