Shipping Up To Boston

We went up to Boston over the weekend for a bar mitzvah and it was fun to be back in The Bean and get to show Judah all my old haunts. It's always fun to see what has changed and what is still the same!

We enjoyed time in Brookline (with their colorful turkey statues!) and went downtown to see the Boston Public Library, the Make Way For Duckling ducks, and walk around Back Bay. I showed Judah the start and finish lines of the marathon (of course!). 

It was so good to be back with my friends and introduce more of them to Judah. It is insane to me that it's almost been 5 years since I moved out of Boston, time surely does fly!

The Good. The Random. The Fun. v. 46

The Good:

I came up to Boston for the weekend for a dear friend's bar mitzvah. Been a very long time since I ran for a donut...I forgot how good they taste mid-long run.

The Random:

One of the Mass Pike rest stops has a claw machine. I got a good giggle at the animals squished up against the glass. 

The Fun:

I got my 11 mile run in around Boston. It was a good chance to see as many sights as I could in a quick trip!

Long Time No See, Boston!

I took advantage of the President's Day long weekend to finally go back to Boston for my first post-move visit! I hopped onto a train in Stamford and headed back to the Bean. The second I walked out of Back Bay Station and saw the Hancock Tower I was a giddy little school girl, it just felt so good. I walked to Kenmore, stopping at the finish line and Citgo Sign. A quick T trip to Brookline where I spent the rest of my day!

I spent the afternoon with as many friends as I could see. Lunch with the Maimo crew at a local park, a long walk to see all my old stomping grounds, and hanging at my old shul with that crew. I of course had to grab some JP Licks before heading back to the station to come home. 

It was a whirlwind of a day but the spring like temps and familiar sights made it a super special day. It was crazy to see all the changes in the last year and a half and I realized i hadn't seen that many people out and about in Boston since March 2020, when I moved in July it was still eery quiet!

I plan to go back in March for a longer weekend, but this day filled my cup!

Nature Trail and Cranberry Bog

My last Boston adventure was to the Nature Trail at Patriot Place. Tucked behind Gilette Stadium is a cranberry bog that is still in operation! There is a half-mile trail around the wetlands and bog and it was a perfect last exploration.

The woods had beautiful flowers and great views of the wetlands. Then you come out at the bog (that was first planted in 1929!). You wouldn't realize it in the summer if you're only used to flooded bogs. I could make out the berries growing in. In the fall, they'll flood the bog and harvest the berries!

It's a great little place to explore and you'd never know there was a football stadium half a mile away either!

Modernist Marvel

I had always seen this building - the Erich Lindemann Mental Health Center -  in downtown Boston, but never really looked closer. It's tucked away in between some more "popular" or well-explored places, but I saw a few IG posts featuring it and knew it was now or never to explore before I shipped out.

It's been called an architectural marvel - a modern concrete structure attached to the Department of Health and actually unfinished. There are snaking staircases, curves and sharp angles, and hand chiseled rippled walls. It's initial design was to match that of the starkly modern (and massively ugly) City Hall and the style of other buildings in Government Center.

It's amazing the mix of architecture in downtown Boston. One block can hold a building from 1776 and another is a concrete monstrosity! I will miss that contrast in White Plains for sure!
