That's a Wrap!

Today is the last day of the school year! It is also the end of my time at WDS.
Early in the school year, I made the decision to move onto a new chapter and today marks the end of this chapter in my educator journey. The last 4 years have been a whirlwind on a professional and global scale and I am leaving having learned a lot and made friends for life! It was fun to look through photos from the last 4 years and see how my time at the school unfolded. From starting in the height of COVID when no one was vaccinated and we truly were making it up as we went along, to now where it feels much more normal. Being at WDS through the war in Israel has helped rekindle my love for my ancestral homeland and working with so many Israelis has helped my Hebrew get strong again, too!
I've experienced professional and personal highs and challenges in the last four years, but done so among colleagues who are now friends and on a campus that is almost too beautiful for words! But, it is time to move one to new adventures. Administration was not for the faint of heart. My skin has toughened, I've learned a lot, and I am excited to try combining my passion for academics and working with teachers into an entrepreneurial endeavor!
I have launched a tutoring and teacher coaching business! I am excited to have the opportunity to work 1 on 1 with students and help them overcome any academic challenges they may be facing. I am working on building my "brand" and am so excited to be my own boss!

You can check out my business here and follow along on IG here where I will be sharing educational tips for parents and educators! If you know anyone looking for support for their child or a teacher looking for a coach, send them my way!

The Good. The Random. The Fun. v. 3

The Good:
Last week, during a professional development day, we engaged in some service projects for Israel. I worked on cards to soldiers and families displaced when their kibbutzim were attacked on Oct. 7th.

The Random:
Are you even an educator if you don't use Mr. Sketch markers?

The Fun:
Judah and I hunkered down in the arctic air this weekend and played games all Saturday afternoon. We had some fun with a new to both of us game called Abducktion. The little ducks are so cute!

The Good. The Random. The Fun. v. 13

The Good:
We had a fantastic surprise at school on Monday - Matt the Turkey showed back up after a 3.5-week absence! We kinda assumed the worst, but it turns out he went out and found 4 girlfriends. He and his new family are camping out on the lower fields and our little guy is all grown up strutting around... (and yes it's 100% him he comes when he's called and we can't forget that little head and beady eyes!)

The Random:
I ran into one of the local bakeries to get a cake for someone's birthday at work and had a good chuckle at the "Happy Passover" banner over the display case of very not kosher for Passover treats. The better irony is that the bakery is kosher!

The Fun:
March Madness Book Edition year 3 was another awesome success! We had a new winner this year, too!

Back to School!

And we are off to the races for the 2022-2023 school year! Last year we had a 1 day hurricane delay and this year we had a very, very rainy day... so progress!

The first days of school are always so fast and furious. We spend months planning for a new year and it's put into action and tested. As always, it was amazing to see the kids and a pleasant new chapter to now be masked for the first time in 3 years.
It's amazing how quickly the routines of arrival and dismissal, lunch duty, and walking in and out of classrooms feels familiar. The days may be long and crazy, but they are rewarding and I am looking forward to a great year!

The Good. The Random. The Fun. v. 35

The Good:
WDS is shifting our focus to being aligned with the Science of Reading. It's a pedagogical passion of mine and it was great to present on it last week at the faculty orientation.

The Random:
This may be the most genius name for a self-storage place!

The Fun:
There is something about fresh flowers that just feel so great! I rarely have them (cough...pollen...cough) but a bouquet of sunflowers is usually a safe option!

The Good. The Random. The Fun. v. 23

The Good:
I started an elementary school completion ceremony (siyum) for our 5th graders and the first official one was Friday! It was a lovely, special morning.

The Random:
I walked by the copier and this was sitting there. Nothing else written on it, just that. Happy last week, I suppose!

The Fun:
Look who showed up on the east coast!
